  • Tar Heels F Zeller likely out for season (AP)

Top-ranked North Carolina's unmatched depth just got a little thinner. The school said freshman 7-footer Tyler Zeller will likely miss the rest of the season with a broken left wrist he suffered late in Tuesday night's win against Kentucky. Zeller had surgery Wednesday to repair fractures in two places, a recovery that normally would take 12 to 16 weeks.

  • No. 5 Spartans survive scare from IPFW (AP)

IPFW slowed the game down and for a while No. 5 Michigan State couldn't keep up. After finishing with a flourish in the first half to open an eight-point halftime lead, the Spartans (2-0) came out in the second half making just 1-of-10 shots, falling behind twice by three points against methodical IPFW (0-2).

  • Arlington, Houston awarded Final Fours (AP)

Jerry Jones envisions thousands of college students and fans filling the three-acre plazas at either end of the new Dallas Cowboys stadium, having a good time and creating home-court environments for their respective teams. "This is going to be the largest-attended basketball game in the history of this sport," the Cowboys owner said Wednesday after the stadium was awarded the 2014 NCAA men's...

  • Teague's 31 power No. 20 Wake Forest (AP)

Wake Forest head coach Dino Gaudio, right, talks with James Johnson, left, during the second half of Wake Forest's 120-88 win over UNC Wilmington in a NCAA college basketball game in Winston-Salem, N.C., Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008.

Jeff Teague and James Johnson knew North Carolina-Wilmington wanted to turn the game into a fast-paced, never-stop-shooting romp. That suited Wake Forest's sophomore duo just fine. Teague scored a career-high 31 points while Johnson added 25 to help the 20th-ranked Demon Deacons beat the Seahawks 120-88 on Wednesday night, an offensive performance that ranked among the program's best.

  • No. 23 Villanova holds off pesky Niagara (AP)

Battered, bruised and worn down, Villanova found a way to keep its home winning streak going. Up ahead for the No. 23 Wildcats is a needed break. Scottie Reynolds scored 19 points, Corey Fisher had 15 and Reggie Redding 14 to lead banged-up Villanova past pesky Niagara, 77-62 on Wednesday night. "I was happy we kind of gutted it out," coach Jay Wright said.

  • Davidson's Curry has 44, but Sooners win (AP)

Blake Griffin and Oklahoma learned to never count out Stephen Curry. Griffin had 25 points and a career-high 21 rebounds, freshman Willie Warren added 20 points and the 12th-ranked Sooners overcame the highest scoring game of Curry's career to beat No. 21 Davidson 82-78 on Tuesday night. The early season showcase was played out with first-round draft picks Kevin Durant, Jeff Green and Russell...

  • Vitale talks less so he can keep talking (AP)

If anything could motivate Dick Vitale to talk less, it's the fear of no longer being able to gab for a living. The garrulous ESPN college basketball announcer, who missed more than two months last season after throat surgery, continues to take precautions to rest his vocal cords. "Little things like that are going to help me prolong my career, because, I'm going to be honest with you, without it I...

  • Kansas follows banner raising with win (AP)

The lights went down in Allen Fieldhouse, replaced by the flickering images from a video highlighting last season's title run, including a clip of coach Bill Self's speech after the win over Memphis. Then came a spotlight, shining at the north end of the storied arena where the 2008 national championship banner took its place among the school's four others.

  • No. 14 Vols win 34th straight at home (AP)

Tennessee's leading scorer Tuesday night was a reserve forward who was almost an offensive lineman for Ohio State. "They (Ohio State's football coaches) used to come down to my prep school and take me out of basketball practice and offer me scholarships," Brian Williams said. "I would have been a left tackle." Good thing for the 14th-ranked Volunteers he was on their side Tuesday night.

  • No. 11 Purdue advances to NIT semifinals (AP)

Purdue coach Matt Painter can't wait to get back to Madison Square Garden. Painter attended a tournament there as a middle school student and recalls being in awe. Now, he'll go back with his team after the 11th-ranked Boilermakers reached the NIT Season Tip-Off semifinals with a 78-46 victory over Loyola of Chicago on Tuesday night.
